Long life and vitality

As Bub and I shopped the dairy case at Trader Joe's, I spotted an elderly woman in a wheelchair who seemed to be waving at me. I walked toward her, looking for some familiarity in her face, but didn't recognize her. However, she was indeed waving me over, so I approached her.

She said to me, "You have a wonderful young man. Take care of him." I replied, "I know!" She continued, "Give him back rubs!" I smiled and told her I would, and she gave him the same instruction. We said goodbye and walked on.

I later discovered that this woman is 95 years old. Her aide apparently leaves her in a spot where she can see and interact with lots of people during the shopping trip. What a sweet and positive woman. I can only hope I'm that vital when I'm 95!

I like listening to our elders. They bring up points that we all seem to over look these days. It really comes down to keeping things simple. I will write more later on this subject.

First of all, Royce, I must acknowledge you for leaving my very first comment on my new blog! Thanks so much!

I recently joined a women's networking social group started in the 80s for executive/self-employed women as a response to the closed "old boys" network.

Many of these founding women are still in the group and they're in their 70s and 80s. I so enjoy hearing their stories and talking to them about business and life. They've got so much to share!

Congratulations on the new blog! I'm honored to be the second person to comment. I continue to be amazed each time I see that people have visited my blogs. When they leave a comment...well, that is a slice of blogger heaven.

Lovely story about the woman you had the opportunity to meet. May we all grow to be so delightful and engaging.

I love that photo of you and Rudy! It's got a hint of Lucy and Ricky, and funny, the names resonate too!

Thanks, Jean. We used to take regular photos at a photo booth in town until the place closed down. Boohoo. That one is one of our favorites.

When we were first dating, we called each other Lucy and Ricky, as a matter of fact. Didn't stick, though. :-)
